in the shallows
with cubs in tow

facing possible
extinction
while ice sheets
retreat
and bears flee
reluctantly
during whaling
season

stealing into streets
seeking meals
unable to rely on seals
during days of reckoning

like climate refugees
encompassing
polarizing eras
and widening inquiries
of carnage and fear
from worsening cruelties

being trapped in cities
sending cryptic tweets
once considered hokey
along water-soaked
coasts minus backbone
patrolling in glass-
bottom boats as fragile
floating protests...
